As the title suggests, this post is all about the information that I found out about Afghanistan. The topic that I decided to Research was Afghanistan's Environmental Issues.
1. The Geography of Afghanistan-It's location lies along key oil fields that were fought over by the Western Powers and the Soviet Union.
2. Waste Disposal in Afghanistan is unsanitary and can pollute viable drinking water.
3. Scarcity of Water can lead to environmental problems and civil unrest.
4. Endangered Species being hunted to near extinction.
I learned, recently, that steps are being taken to protect the environment and the endangered species. For instance, 'endangered species' lists are being posted to prevent furthur hunting of them. Also, an improvement to the environment was made in April of 2009, when the first Afghan National Park was established named Band-e-Amir Lake Kara.
To think back on the situation with new research, I believe that establishing the first National Park is a very good thing to do. This is because Afghanistan has had a history of violence (Conflict with the Soviet Union) that can and has ravaged at least part of the environment. Therefore, protecting the environment in these and other ways is definitedly a step in the right direction.
Coming up next, on Samuel Weise's Research Blog, the luck of the draw will be revealed in the very geography of the earth as Samuel Weise reveals what he has learned from wtuding about Jared Diamond and his story of Guns, Germs, and Steel...
